Postcards from Menoreh

Here are two conceptual photos I took at the abandoned Manuk-Manukan Church, on one of the peaks of Menoreh Hill Range in Borobudur Subdistrict, Magelang, Central Java. You’ve got to love the location.

And this is what the church looks like…

manuk = bird in Javanese

Manuk is Javanese for bird. Manuk-manukan means something that looks like a bird, so you can also use the word to refer to Superman.

In order to get there, you will need to go west from Borobudur Temple — that’s all the way west — and up the Menoreh Hill Range. As there are no signs, asking around on which path to take to get to this church might be your best bet.
